11 protestors arrested after blocking entrance to Travis Air Force Base

(KRON) — The Fairfield Police Department arrested 11 protesters on Friday for blocking Airbase Parkway, the main entrance to the Travis Air Force Base by Fairfield and Vacaville.

Just after 7 a.m., protesters attempted to block traffic by standing at a crosswalk at the Air Force Base’s main gate.

Protesters stayed for approximately five minutes before police arrived. Officials say they attempted to warn the protesters to move, but they remained stagnant until they were arrested.

Prior to this protest at the main gate, Travis Air Force Base Security Forces discovered that the road to the Air Force’s other entrance gate had been blocked with an “anti-war banner,” with “junk furniture” and nail clusters to flatten the tires of cars driving on the roadway (pictured below).

The other gate entrance was blocked for approximately one hour before the Suisun City Police Department shut down Petersen Road and spent another hour removing the debris and nails from the road.

Travis Air Force Base had been alerted prior to these protests that there may be an attempt to shut down the base and requested assistance from the Fairfield Police Department.

The 11 protesters people were arrested and booked into Solano County Jail for failure to obey an officer and delaying traffic.
