“I thought it was an Oppenheimer sequel”: Rami Malek’s New Movie on Nuremberg Trials Has 2 Man of Steel Stars in Major Roles and Fans are Hyped

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was an astounding success last year in the box office and this year during the awards season. The story was gripping, with some absolutely brilliant performances, and an equally fitting director who left no stone unturned to make a cinematic masterpiece.

World War movies are sometimes a hit and miss, but this one completely knocked it out of the park. Oppenheimer was praised for its story, as well as execution, and has been a fan favorite for a while. And it looks like we will have another World War II drama in our hands soon.

Nuremberg Is a Oppenheimer and Man of Steel Crossover

Director James Vanderbilt is bringing the story of the Nuremberg trials to life, with a brilliant cast attached to the project. The movie is based on yet another book, this one being The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, Nuremberg by Jack El-Hai. The psychatrist in question is U.S. military psychiatrist, Lt. Colonel Douglas Kelley, who is given the job to figure out if the Nazi prisoners are mentally fit to stand trial for their war crimes against their enemies during World War II.

The movie stars Rami Malek, Russell Crowe, and Michael Shannon in leading roles. The first look for the project was recently shared by Deadline (via X), and it gives off some Oppenheimer vibes. The cast is already being hailed, and given the complicated nature of the story, it might be another one for the history books after the Christopher Nolan movie. Nuremberg will supposedly be marketed during the Cannes Film Festival this year and is anticipated to be one to get some of the highest bids.

Malik will play the role of the young and eager psychiatrist, Douglas Kelley. Russell Crowe will be seen as Herman Göring, one of the high-ranking Nazi prisoners who will stand for trial. And U.S. prosecutor Robert Jackson will be played by Michael Shannon. Audiences are pretty thrilled about the upcoming feature, which has these two major DC stars, whom we last saw together in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

The director of the movie had the movie’s story in his head even before the book by Jack El-Hai was published in 2013. Vanderbilt told Deadline:

“I read his book proposal, which was about the relationship between Kelley and Göring… As soon as I read about the relationship between these two men, I was really attracted to the idea of telling a personal story between them and how they collided at this crossroads in history.”

The movie’s old school vibe, which is pretty similar to last year’s Oppenheimer, might also work in its favor, as few fans even thought that Nuremberg is a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. Here is what fans are saying about the upcoming movie:

The movie will be presented to buyers this Thursday with a short footage at Cannes. Having only completed principal photography for the movie, it will be a while before Nuremberg will be ready to give audiences a sneak peak. But with such a brilliant cast and such an interesting story as its basis, the movie is sure to give us something extraordinary.
